For this project, the old and narrow training institute was razed and rebuilt into a space that revolves around education. The goal was to keep the natural environment of Gonjiam intact, while creating a space that blended with the surrounding environment. Thus, the project focused on reflecting the surrounding greenery into the building, rather than emphasizing an elaborate form or flamboyant interior design. The institute was laid out to appear as if the building is embracing the forest, while providing trainees with a magnificent view of the natural environment and a chance to directly feel nature. Courtyards were spaced in between the training rooms so that even the education building located on the ground floor offers a pleasant learning environment with natural lighting and ventilation. The hallways, lobby and other indoor communal spaces are connected to the courtyards, resulting in a spacious-looking interior. In addition, the entire outer wall was equipped with an aisle-style Dra Area to completely seal off the ground floor from any dampness.
