The construction site, which is located in Yeongun-dong, Jongro-gu near the entrance of Daehak-ro, is a junction point crossed by Daehak-ro along the North-South axis and Yulgok-ro along the East-West axis. The site is also an eco-bridge that interconnects green and cultural flow found in Marronnier Park as well as Changgyeonggung Palace and Naksan Mountain. By forming an interactive street as a venue that emphasizes the start of the street that combines cultural aspects of Daehak-ro and pedestrian flow of Yulgok-ro in the place in which the education space of Hongik University and cultural space of Daehak-ro mix together, Daehak-ro transforms into a harmonious mixed culture space where people experience education, research, culture and exhibition. The proposed design concept is intended to embrace the cutting-edge trends in education as a key organization responsible for the country’s design infrastructure while at the same time embracing the young culture of Daehak-ro by responding to the demand for new vision of an urban campus that nimbly adapts to social changes and diverse demands. The creative pioneering spirit of Hongik University in design was recreated in the form of vertical layers while its exterior was designed on the basis of the motif of the university’s liberal creativity. The dynamic exterior and restrained design form an appropriate façade befitting the nature of the program. The layered structure of the exterior will rise as a new landmark in Daehak-ro representing the consolidated cultural spectrum of the street.
